The free subscriptions for Cercanías and Medium-Distance trains that the Government approved this summer and launched in September

have triggered trips by 40%,

in the case of medium-distance trains, and 25% in Cercanías, as reported by this Monday the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, during her speech at the New Economy Forum.

As detailed, 1.5 million free bonuses have already been requested and it is expected to reach two million in the remainder of the year.

According to the minister, this boost from the train

saves 118 million liters of gasoline

and up to 360,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions into the atmosphere, which is what would have been emitted if these trips had been made by car .

Sánchez has also announced the opening this Monday of a new call for subsidies for training in transport and mobility for 11 million euros, focused on sustainability and digitization for 12,000 people until December 2025, being able to increase the amount of aid to €33 million.

Likewise,

last Thursday the second call for 500 million euros was closed,

aimed at municipalities implementing low-emission zones, renewing transport fleets or pedestrianizing streets, having received requests for more than 730 million euros.

Lastly, the minister took stock of the measures approved by the Government in the framework of the invasion of Ukraine, with around 11,000 million euros mobilized in the first half of the year, almost 4,700 million linked to her Ministry.

If these measures had not been taken, she has indicated that the IPC would have climbed to 15%, compared to 9% in which it closed September.
