Iran: Students demonstrate inside Sharif University in Tehran

The prestigious Sharif University, located in the center of Tehran, was the scene of anti-regime demonstrations all day on Sunday October 2.

Riot police intervened with force to disperse the demonstrators.

Protests also took place at other universities across the country.

Protesting students began to demonstrate from the middle of the day.

Some launched slogans against the top leaders of the country.

According to state media, a fight broke out between pro and anti-regime students.

Then, the riot police intervened violently, notably by pursuing students who had taken refuge in an underground car park in one of the university buildings.

In the evening, the Minister of Higher Education visited the site to speak to the students.

According to videos posted on social media, the minister told students they could protest but did not accept unrest and ransacking.

The riot police intervened with great violence against people who had gathered in front of the university in support of the students.

Protesters were arrested.

On the other hand, the president of the university denied any deaths and even any arrests among the students, while on social networks there are reports of deaths among the students.

This Monday morning, the authorities announced that Sharif University will be closed until further notice and that classes will be held online.
