It may be a page that is turning in Kuwait.

Thursday, September 29, during the legislative elections, 28 of the 50 seats in Parliament were filled by members of the opposition.

Thus defeating 20 former parliamentarians, including three former ministers.

Two women, Alia Al-Khaled and Jenan Busheri, were also elected among the 22 candidates who were in the running.

None had obtained a seat during the previous mandate.

In Kuwaiti society, these results breathe a wind of hope and change.

After parliament was dissolved this summer, Kuwait's crown prince, Sheikh Meshaal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, promised that there would be no interference from the authorities in the electoral process.

For several years, Kuwait has been mired in a serious political crisis between the executive and parliament.

Persistent tensions that have prevented this small Gulf oil emirate from carrying out the necessary reforms in a context of economic difficulties.
