European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the institution on Wednesday proposed to EU member states to cap the price of Russian oil and add new restrictions on trade with Russia.

These new measures still need to be approved unanimously.

The European Commission on Wednesday proposed to EU member states to cap the price of Russian oil and add new restrictions on trade with Russia, its President Ursula von der Leyen announced.

"We are isolating and hitting Russia's economy even more" in the face of Moscow's new escalation in Ukraine, in particular the organization of annexation referendums, explained the president of the European executive.

These new measures must still be approved unanimously by the Twenty-Seven to be adopted.
