For decades, the city of Montpellier (Hérault) has been eyeing the land occupied by Union Matériaux, on Avenue de Boirargues, opposite the universities of Richter.

A huge site, some 2.2 hectares, in the heart of the city, a stone's throw from the Port Marianne district.

Various projects had been discussed, but nothing came to fruition.

It is now official: this family business of building materials, become one of the leaders of the sector, will leave its historical ground.

It will soon settle on a 2.5 hectare site, in the Cambacérès district, that of the new station.

If Union Matériaux yielded to the sirens of Serm, the city's development company, it is because it has, for years, reduced "its land requirement from 40,000 m2 to finally 25,000 m2", in particular by opening two logistics bases in Vendargues and Lunel.

But what is the city of Montpellier preparing for this immense land released near Port Marianne?

A real estate project.

What, precisely?

Nothing has filtered yet, for the moment.

“We are working on it”, confides the mayor, Michaël Delafosse (PS).
