According to Credit Suisse's Global Wealth Report 2022, there were 62.5 million millionaires worldwide at the end of 2021, 5.2 million more than in 2020. This number has increased by 56% since 2017, specifies

According to the Swiss Bank's projections, it should increase again by at least 40% by 2026, pushing the number of millionaires to more than 87 million.

Twice as many millionaires in China

Some countries are expected to contribute more than others to this increase.

This is particularly the case for China, which could see its number of millionaires double between 2021 and 2026, going from 6.1 million millionaires to 12.2 million.

However, the United States would largely remain the country with the most millionaires in the world, with an estimate of 27.7 million millionaires in 2026 (+13%).

Other countries should see their number of millionaires double at the same time, such as India and Brazil.

The authors of the Global Wealth Report also estimate that the number of millionaires in Africa should increase by 173% within five years.

France still fifth

As for France, it should remain the fifth country in the world hosting the largest number of millionaires.

After losing 26 in 2021, France should regain more than a million in five years, according to estimates.

The ultra-rich with more than 50 million dollars in assets should be 385,000 in 2026 (+45% over five years).

By that date, China could be home to as many ultra-rich as the whole of Europe.

Total global wealth should thus increase by 169,000 billion dollars by 2026. Its increase in 2022 is however uncertain due to the current crises.
