Japan's largest event to promote the charm of domestic and overseas tourist destinations started in Tokyo from the 22nd, and local officials and others who had decreased tourists due to the influence of the new corona introduced local efforts.

This event was held for the first time in two years by the Japan National Tourism Organization, etc. At the venue, Tokyo Big Sight, there are about 1200 booths such as local governments, companies, and overseas organizations.

At the booth on Yoron Island, a remote island in Kagoshima Prefecture, visitors can experience a simulated experience of local beaches and starry skies by wearing VR (virtual reality) goggles.

There are many booths introducing so-called "sustainable tourism" efforts to revitalize the tourism industry while protecting the culture and environment of tourist destinations. Among them, Gifu Prefecture, where the gassho-zukuri village is registered as a World Heritage Site. At the Shirakawa Village booth, we introduced a booklet created by the local government for tourists to encourage good manners.

Shinji Narihara, head of Shirakawa Village's Tourism Promotion Division, said, "The booklet states that car traffic is being regulated as a safety measure for tourists as well as local residents, and that sightseeing is not possible at night. I hope that tourists will gradually return while taking care to prevent it."

This event is open until the 25th of this month.
