Faced with soaring energy prices, local authorities are looking for solutions to reduce their bills over the long term.

Thus, seven municipalities in the Tarn will very soon have smart streetlights installed instead of the current public lighting, reports

La Dépêche

.

These streetlights are equipped with sensors and only light up when a person passes by.

Aussillon, Cambounet, Couffouleux, Lagrave, Lisle-sur-Tarn, Massaguel and Navès have already been tempted.

Do not completely remove public lighting

With such a system, the electricity bill of these municipalities to light the streets will drop from 60 euros to 4 euros per year for each street lamp.

Energy consumption will also increase from 492 kW/h to 58k kW/h, according to figures from Territoire d'énergie, the public establishment responsible for supporting communities in this transition.

This new device will also allow communities to avoid having to switch off the lighting completely.

This possibility arouses heated debates, because the absence of light causes a feeling of insecurity among many inhabitants.
