The consumer price index for August, which looks at the price movements of goods and services consumed at home, exceeded the same month last year by 2.8%, excluding fresh food, which fluctuates greatly depending on the weather.

The rate of increase of 2.8% is the first in 7 years and 10 months, and the first level in 30 years and 11 months since September 1991, excluding the effects of the consumption tax hike.
