You may remember the so-called Royal Tomb View Apartment Incident, when a large-scale apartment was built around the Royal Tomb, a World Heritage Site.

A legal battle is still ongoing, and the Board of Audit and Inspection, which has investigated the matter, has taken the position that the Cultural Heritage Administration is at fault.

This is reporter Jo Yoon-ha.

people from moving companies are busy carrying their luggage.

This is the so-called Royal Tomb View Apartment, which sparked controversy that it did not receive the necessary permission from the Cultural Heritage Administration as it entered the world cultural heritage site, Jangneung.

[Moving company employee: We are moving in now.

Everyone is waiting.

Moving in.]

Two out of three apartment complexes are moving in like this.

The remaining one is expected to start moving in at the end of this month.

There is still a legal battle between the construction company, the Cultural Heritage Administration, and the Incheon Seo-gu Office, which is the local government under the jurisdiction.

[Apartment resident: We were already in a state of sale, so we were in a situation where we had no choice but to suffer damage.]

But the Board of Audit and Inspection, which has investigated this issue, pointed out the mistakes of the Cultural Heritage Administration.

According to the current guidelines, when a new cultural heritage preservation area is established, the Cultural Heritage Administration is required to notify the local government of this fact.

However, in this case, only Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do, where the royal tomb is located, was notified, and the Seo-gu Office in Incheon was omitted.

It seems to have strengthened the position of the local government and the construction company that the construction was carried out without knowing the fact of the designation.

Regarding the results of this audit, the Cultural Heritage Administration gave an explanation that it is highly likely that the person in charge at the time made a mistake.

[Jang Yoon-mi / Attorney: I have no choice but to see it as a very passive administration.

In fact, the occupancy has already started, and it seems that the court will have no choice but to take this into account.]

As soon as the ongoing trial is finished, the Board of Audit and Inspection plans to conduct an audit again and decide whether to discipline the relevant public officials.
