“The Commission is also proposing a temporary solidarity contribution for excess profits generated from activities in the oil, gas, coal and refining sectors... It will be collected by Member States from profits in 2022 that exceed a 20% increase compared to the average profits of the previous three years," the statement said.

Revenues will be collected by Member States and redirected to energy consumers.

It is assumed that this contribution can bring about €25 billion in government revenue.

Earlier it was reported that the European Commission proposed to reduce electricity consumption in the EU by 10% until March 31, 2023.
