Within the Executive we can propose to establish a

temporary limit on the rise in variable-rate mortgages

to protect vulnerable families from the rise in Euribor, which in practice would mean a reduction of up to 150 euros in monthly installments.

In fact, the

purples

have already sent their approach this Monday to the PSOE with the will to negotiate with a view to including the measure in the contingency plan decree law.

At the same time, the parliamentary group of United We Can, given the urgency of the situation, will also register the

proposal as a Bill in Congress

in the coming days.

Specifically, according to training sources, the approach is that banks compulsorily offer their clients the possibility of benefiting from a reduction in their mortgage loans.

Thus, for one year

the differential of variable-rate mortgages would be 0.10%

, without an increase in the repayment term of the credit.

According to the calculations of Podemos,

the decrease in the monthly fee would pivot between 100 and 150 euros

and would guarantee financial entities to continue obtaining benefits, although lower, for said loans, in addition to reducing delinquency situations.

The

purple

proposal is aimed at families experiencing difficulties in dealing with their mortgages and, therefore, the thresholds that were set during the pandemic to deploy mortgage and lease moratoriums would be taken as a reference.

Podemos justifies its measure in that the Euribor has gone from a negative rate of -0.5% at the beginning of 2022 to exceeding 2% last week, which generates a substantial impact on household fees of up to 200 euros more per month, and even in some cases it rises more than 30%.

"This not only means that millions of families in Spain are going to have a much harder time making ends meet, but it can also lead to a situation of delinquency or even massive defaults, putting the stability of the banking system at risk, as happened during the mortgage crisis more than 10 years ago", warn in Podemos.

Other alternatives

On the other hand, yesterday IU announced that it is working on an initiative so that part of the extraordinary tax on electricity companies and banks is used to directly alleviate the increase in the mortgage burden on households, progressively and according to the income of each family. .

In this way, the formula that advocates the formation of Alberto Garzón goes through a month-to-month deduction for households in their quotas, based on their income and justified by the situation that has occurred due to the increase in prices.

In economic matters, the

purples

pointed out yesterday that they will continue to demand the deployment of a progressive tax reform and lower the monthly payment for public transport to 10 euros.
