The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, has responded to the Minister of Labour, Yolanda Díaz, that

"no one has it in their power to set prices"

, in reference to Díaz's proposal to agree with the supermarket chains a basket of basic and affordable purchases to alleviate the impact of inflation on families,

"Obviously no one has in his hand,

neither from a common sense point of view, nor from a legal point of view,

the possibility of setting prices or indicating prices to distribution. It is a question that has to be done in accordance with the rules of the functioning of the society of our market and the rules of the European Union itself", Planas affirmed in statements to Aragón TV collected by Europa Press.

Planas, the minister with powers over the sector, thus responds to Díaz, who first proposed on Monday to limit the prices of some basic products, such as milk, eggs or bread, then qualified the speech and spoke of agreeing on this with large distribution, chains.

Yesterday, relying on the initiative of the

Carrefour chain, which has created a basket of 30 products for 30 euros

, he proposed extending this idea to the rest of the chains.

This idea is not shared by other ministries, such as Economy.

Planas himself had already spoken out against this measure last week.

Yesterday he once again asked for

"responsibility" from the entire agri-food chain

and especially from distribution, which has to adopt "autonomous business decisions" in this regard.

In other words, the Government cannot impose on any company in the sector to create a basket at a stipulated price.

"What the Government is asking for is that each link in the chain assumes its responsibility and that we are all aware that, obviously, an excessive increase in prices for citizens affects their style and their living conditions," said Planas, who He added that "there is a position of the Government, defended by all the members of the Government, beginning with the president".
