High earners should pay up to 788 euros more social security contributions in 2023.

Is this a scandal?

Not per se.

Because if the contribution assessment limits of the social security funds increase every year with the general wage development, this basically follows a universally accepted concept: The welfare state does not usually want to leave employees to make provisions for the vicissitudes of life on their own - but more than twice the average earnings should then are not subject to the compulsory protection of the solidarity community.

This upper limit therefore also increases with the general wage level.

A nuisance, however, are (non-contributory) politicians who completely ignore such additional burdens and pretend that you can always pack more taxes and duties on top.

Also: The true interest of social policy in higher ceilings is not in adapting the solidarity protection for high earners to their own increase in prosperity.

They want to take the additional contribution money away from them in order to redistribute it to other insured persons.
