Maersk Kanoo Emirates, the global integrated logistics company, has announced that it has reached an agreement with Dubai South, the largest urban project focused on the aviation, logistics and real estate sectors, to establish its new warehousing and distribution facility in Dubai.

A statement issued yesterday stated that Christopher Cook, Managing Director of Maersk Emirates, and Mohsen Ahmed, Executive Director of the Logistics District in Dubai South, signed the agreement at the regional headquarters of Maersk West and Central Asia in Dubai.

The 162,000-square-foot Maersk Integrated Logistics Center in the logistics district of Dubai South will be able to provide 15,000 freight pallet locations and 10,000 container storage locations. The facility will also serve as an execution center for operations.

Having opened its first dedicated facility covering an area of 108,000 square feet in Dubai in the Jebel Ali Free Zone last March, Maersk will double its overall presence in the UAE.

"We at (Maersk) are keen on continuous communication with our customers to understand their logistical requirements and the challenges that may face the supply chain," Cook said.

He added, "After studying all the different possibilities, we focused on (Dubai South) to establish our new center for the implementation and completion of our operations, thanks to its strategic location."

For his part, Mohsen Ahmed said, "Our mission in (Dubai South) is to attract major international companies to the logistics zone, with the aim of strengthening this sector and diversifying the emirate's economy, in line with various government initiatives and strategies."
