China's EV = electric vehicle manufacturer "BYD" announced that it will build a new factory to produce EVs in Thailand in Southeast Asia.

In the future, we plan to make it a production base for Southeast Asian countries including Thailand and Europe.

BYD, a major Chinese EV manufacturer, held a press conference in Bangkok on the 8th and announced that it had signed a contract to purchase 96 hectares of land in an industrial park in Rayong Province, eastern Thailand.

The company plans to build a new plant to produce EV passenger cars on this land and start operation the year after next.

The factory has an annual production capacity of 150,000 units, and plans to sell EVs in Thailand first, and then make it a production base for Southeast Asian countries and Europe.

BYD is a representative EV manufacturer in China, where sales of "new energy vehicles" such as EVs are expanding, and is accelerating its expansion overseas, such as by deciding to sell EV passenger cars in Japan.

Thailand is a market where Japanese manufacturers have about 90% of the sales share, and production facilities are also concentrated there.

However, most Japanese manufacturers focus on gasoline vehicles and do not produce EVs in Thailand.

BYD is expected to establish a production system as soon as possible in anticipation of the spread of EVs in Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries.
