Meeting in an energy defense council, the government called for energy sobriety as well as "European solidarity" to get through the winter.

A possible lack of gas and electricity supply raises fears of shortages in the months to come.

The government called on Friday for sobriety and "European solidarity", at the end of an unprecedented Defense Council chaired by Emmanuel Macron to take stock of the supply of gas and electricity at the approach of Winter.

“It is thanks to sobriety and European solidarity that we will be able to avoid restrictive measures”, declared the Minister for Energy Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher.

"If the situation is serious, we have activated all the levers at our hand to prepare for winter," she said in a statement.
