The Dubai Maritime City Authority at the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation has confirmed its continued efforts to implement a number of initiatives to facilitate procedures and operations for local yachts and marinas, with the aim of enhancing Dubai's position as a center for marine entertainment.

In a statement issued yesterday, Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Dubai Maritime City Authority, said that the authority is keen to adopt ambitious visions that contribute to raising Dubai's rating among the world's leading marine destinations by providing an integrated set of services, legislation and regulations.

He explained that the initiatives recently launched by the authority are in the interest of promoting Dubai as a winter tourist destination during the next season, by providing a number of services and facilities for the benefit of visiting foreign yachts, including tax exemption from value-added tax and exemption from customs duties, which currently amount to 5 %, if the yachts are shipped to Dubai, in addition to providing berthing for visiting foreign yachts for a period of six months free of charge, and providing a short-term berthing service for all local and visiting boats and yachts within the territorial waters of the Emirate of Dubai.

He added that the Dubai Maritime City Authority has implemented a number of other initiatives, foremost of which is the system for self-examination of cruise means of up to 12 meters in length upon renewal of the license, in addition to assuming the authority to develop the standards of current and future marinas, standardizing the best management practices, as well as applying the best management practices.
