90% of its businesses are run by women

2,900 Emirati productive families registered in “Al-Sana’a”

Hessa Buhumaid: "Emirati women currently occupy about 66% of government sector jobs in the country."

The Minister of Community Development, Hessa bint Issa Buhumaid, revealed that female business owners constitute 10% of the total private sector in the country, noting that there are more than 2,900 productive Emirati families at the state level that have productive projects registered in the "Sana'a" project, and that 90 % of those home or micro-enterprises are run by women.

Buhumaid said in her speech during a ceremony held by the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi, on the occasion of Emirati Women's Day, that these families have achieved, to date, an income of 65 million dirhams within the "workmanship" project.

She explained that Emirati women currently occupy about 66 percent of government sector jobs in the country, which is one of the highest percentages worldwide, pointing out that women occupy about 75 percent of the total jobs and leadership positions in the Ministry of Community Development.

Buhumaid indicated that more than 100 people of determination are working in the "Mashagel" project for rehabilitation and professional employment affiliated with the ministry, noting that girls of people of determination produce "golden goods" by crafting many forms of jewelry through the "necklace" and "bangles" project. In addition to working and producing in the community and hydroponic farming initiative, and manufacturing many other artistic accessories.

She pointed out that, according to the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics, the UAE ranked first in the world in nine competitive indicators related to progress in achieving gender balance during 2021, and ranked ninth globally in the indicator of leadership opportunities for women, according to the report of the Global Talent Competitiveness Index issued by the Institute. European Business Administration (INSEAD).

For his part, Head of the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi, Muhammad Ali Al Shurafa Al Hammadi, said that the department launched several initiatives to empower women in the field of business, which contributed to the issuance of 15,203 licenses for Emirati women entrepreneurs by the end of the first half of this year.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by Sameh Al Qubaisi, Director General of Economic Affairs at the Department, Al Hammadi added that the number of Emirati women working in the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Affairs is 310 female employees in various departments, levels and specializations, representing 46% of the total workers in the Department.
