The ministry confirmed, in a tweet on Twitter, that "the work of the e-dirham system will be suspended, in the payment of service fees on the ninth of September 2022."

The ministry called on all customers to use the alternative payment methods approved in the country to pay service fees.

The Ministry of Finance had announced, in mid-August, that government agencies would gradually stop using the e-dirham system to pay their service fees.

She explained that customers will be able to choose the appropriate payment method for them to pay the services of federal government agencies, through common electronic payment solutions, such as "Samsung Pay" and "Apple Pay", bank transfers, direct debit and credit cards.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Finance launched the electronic dirham system in 2001 to form an Emirati national platform, contributing to achieving the vision of the UAE to build a digital economy based on innovation, and the UAE became, at that time, the first country in the region to adopt an electronic payment and collection system, concerned with payment transactions. governmental.

The system has witnessed tremendous development since its launch, and in the year 2020, the third generation of the e-dirham system was launched, which is the most advanced and advanced version of the system, which contributed to strengthening the country's leading position in the field of financial technology solutions worldwide.

The system has succeeded in consolidating its leadership position and building strategic partnerships with a group of leading national banks to provide a very smooth digital experience for customers.

The UAE is currently planning to become the first digital economy in the region, relying on its advanced technical infrastructure and financial system, which is witnessing a radical transformation in the provision of services.

In 2021, the federal government's revenues collected through the e-dirham exceeded the 14.3 billion dirhams barrier.
