Data published by the World Tourism Organization showed that the residents of the UAE spent about $ 21.8 billion (about 80 billion dirhams) on travel and tourism during the past year, despite the “Covid-19” pandemic, to replace the UAE in the list of the most prominent markets in terms of spending rates.

The organization stated, according to preliminary data obtained by "Emirates Today", that "the UAE ranked first regionally and sixth globally in terms of spending rates on tourism and travel," noting that its classification for the most prominent markets depends on the data available to it, on the basis of the annual calendar. , which can be modified as more data is received.

According to the organization, this spending includes the expenses of visitors residing in the country abroad, including payments to national airlines and for services and goods as well.

The organization's statistics indicated that the average per capita spending in the UAE on tourism and travel amounts to about $2,500 (about nine thousand dirhams), based on data for 2020, noting that the total number of travelers from the country abroad reached more than 18 million passengers in In 2019, it declined to about 6.3 million in 2022.

It is noteworthy that the UAE consolidated its gains in the tourism sector during the “Covid-19” pandemic, to be ranked fourth in the world in terms of international tourism revenues during 2021, according to data revealed by the United Nations World Tourism Organization.

According to these data, the total international tourism revenues, that is, the expenditures of international visitors coming to the country, including payments to national airlines, amounted to about 34.4 billion dollars (about 126.2 billion dirhams), equivalent to the UAE market share of the total expenditures of international visitors, thus about 6%. globally.
