Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has decided to file a lawsuit for damages worth 50 billion won against a subcontractor union that has been on strike for 51 days, demanding a wage increase.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) reported to the Board of Directors held on the 19th that it would file a claim for damages against the Chosun Subcontracting Branch of the Korean Federation of Trade Unions (KCTU), Geoje Tongyeong Goseong.

It has not yet been determined whether the claim for damages will be the union executives of some of the subcontractors who led the strike or all of its members.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering estimated the loss from the strike at around 800 billion won, but it is known that the amount was lowered in consideration of the subcontracting union's ability to pay and public opinion.

The subcontractor union went on strike on June 2 and occupied Dock No. 1 at the world's largest Okpo Shipyard, and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering suffered a situation in which launching work was suspended for the first time since its inception.

On the 22nd of last month, the 51-day strike ended with an agreement between the Supplier Council and the subcontractor branch, but Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering announced that it would file a claim for damages against the subcontractor union.
