Combined effect of Covid and global warming, France is starting to fill up with basins.

According to the Federation of Swimming Pool Professionals, at the end of 2021, there were more than three million private swimming pools in France, 135,000 swimming pools in Hauts-de-France against 30,000 in 2005. Figures which bear witness to the rush on swimming pools in the North.

In front of Benjamin's house, there is a huge hole next to his terrace.

He uses a construction machine to remove the earth and build his swimming pool.

His decision: he made it recently, during the first heatwave episode this summer: "I was doing the earthworks outside and I had the digger on hand so why not build a swimming pool. There are heatwave episodes of more and more supported, it's not going to get better. This swimming pool will allow children, family, friends to cool off this summer", he explains to Europe 1.

Overwhelmed pool builders

Since the start of the summer season, pool builders have been in high demand.

Maatoé is a sales representative and receptionist at Sensassion Piscines et Spa.

She is overwhelmed: "It doesn't stop. All day the phone just rings, there are lots of customers passing through the store. It's quite impressive, especially since we're in the North, we didn't expect not so many requests."

The price varies between 25,000 and 100,000 euros depending on their dimensions.

Five times more sales

The turnover of this company was largely realized this summer, a record summer as explained by Vincent Brisse, the commercial director.

"Currently, in the month of July, about fifteen basins have been signed. Normally, we are at 3-4 maximum. It is really a significant demand over a very short period of time, so of course this n It's not always like that, but there is a good weather effect that has triggered a lot of projects."

The last time there were so many sales, according to this manager, was during the 2003 heat wave.
