The entry into force of the energy saving plan announced by the Government a week ago has generated confusion and discomfort in the CEOE business association, which has asked the Government to avoid

"the proliferation of measures that generate confusion

and bewilderment among companies."

Since last morning and as a general rule, companies must adapt their facilities to temperatures that range between 25 and 27 degrees depending on the activity of the workers.

Also, from 10:00 p.m., businesses must turn off the lights in their windows.

The plan includes exceptions such as hospitals, health centers, nurseries, schools, institutes, universities, gyms, hairdressers... but the measures will be in force until at least November 1, 2023. They are part of a first package that

in September will complete with another much more exhaustive

.

If the adoption of temperatures and turning off shop windows have generated inconvenience among companies, it could have been more due to the confusion generated about how to adapt to the norm to comply than for anything else.

But with today's precedent, the adoption of a new, more demanding round in September already puts CEOE on guard, which

openly calls for dialogue with the affected business sectors

and participate in the design of "policies that have a huge impact on their activity and in its costs, especially in industry".

The entry into force of the savings plan to reduce gas consumption has set off the alarm in industries in different territories that have electric cogeneration plants and that, with the government decree, affirm that their viability is in danger.

It is not an exclusive issue of business organizations but regional presidents such as the Aragonese

Javier Lamban

have put this problem on the table of the vice president

Teresa Ribera.

Lambán warned Ribera that the 35 industrial installations located in Aragón with cogeneration capacity could come to an end because the retribution for gas does not pay off, as reported this week

by El Heraldo de Aragón

.

According to CEOE, cogeneration associated with industry has had to stop 60% of its activity due to the lack of support measures and the increase in the price of gas when, precisely, they are efficient plants that provide competitiveness to energy-intensive industries .

The employers' association assures that thanks to cogeneration, the industry saves the equivalent of two and a half months' gas consumption per year for all households and SMEs in Spain.
