Citizen entrepreneurs identified 10 main demands in order to increase the production of basic commodities and achieve self-sufficiency in some of these commodities, especially in the food and medical sectors, and reduce import, which has increased its cost and has become more difficult during the recent period, given the Russian-Ukrainian war, and the pressures experienced by chains supply.

They explained to "Emirates Today" that the most important of these demands is to give priority to granting fertile land to Emirati entrepreneurs, and to facilitate the import of some basic crops and raw materials needed for the food and pharmaceutical industries, especially raw materials that cannot be grown locally, through agreements Government purchases or collective import agreements, noting the need to give national factories soft and long-term loans to import basic equipment and machinery needed for industry.

They also demanded the establishment of industrial complexes in priority sectors that enjoy facilities and reductions in land rents, facilities in obtaining licenses, special prices for services, preferential benefits in exporting abroad, as well as the use of modern technologies in water.

National Factories

In detail, the Emirati entrepreneur, Jassim Al Bastaki, called for supporting national companies and factories wholly owned by citizens, and of which citizens own the majority of shares, with the aim of increasing the production of some basic commodities and achieving self-sufficiency in some commodities, especially in the food and medical sectors and reducing Importing, which has become more expensive and more difficult during the recent period, due to the war in Ukraine, and in light of the pressures that supply chains are currently experiencing.

Al Bastaki explained that "national factories need real support in terms of reducing the prices of basic services, especially electricity, gas and water for factories, and reducing the costs of recruiting labor and industrial land prices, while facilitating the establishment of housing complexes for workers, which will reduce the operational cost of production."

He stressed the importance that government support includes facilitating and supporting the import of some basic crops and raw materials needed for food industries, especially raw materials that cannot be grown locally, and may witness a shortage and increase in global demand, such as rice, wheat, sugar and others, through government procurement agreements or Collective import agreements, with the government distributing them to small, medium and large factories, who need them at small profit margins.

He noted that some basic raw materials needed for the food industries in the country can be obtained through the use of modern technologies in water, provided that natural, not chemical, techniques are relied upon, and that the cultivation process is carried out on large areas, noting that this applies to some The main agricultural crops that can be grown in the country, such as corn, vegetables and fruits.

Al-Bastaki demanded that national factories be given soft and long-term loans extending for 20 years, with interests not exceeding 2%, to import basic equipment and heavy machinery needed for the industry.

industrial complexes

For his part, the Emirati entrepreneur, Dr. Khaled Al-Nimer Al-Zarouni, called for “the establishment of industrial complexes in priority sectors such as the food sector and the medical sector, so that they are integrated free zones, include different factories in specific fields, and enjoy facilities and reductions in land rents and obtaining licenses.” In addition to granting them special prices for electricity, gas, water and other services, as well as preferential facilities and advantages in relation to exporting abroad.

Al-Nimr explained, "Such complexes should be affiliated with a specific entity such as the Ministry of Economy, for example, so that this entity will facilitate the establishment of the complexes, which greatly encourages the attraction of local companies operating in the country to invest in them, and increase the volume of their already existing investments." .

He stressed that «industrial complexes help achieve a boom in the production of some basic commodities and achieve self-sufficiency in some priority areas, during the current period, which helps reduce imports from abroad, and helps reduce the prices of goods for the final consumer, especially since the cost of import has become very high. As a result of the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war, and the continuation of the Corona pandemic.”

Al-Nimr pointed out that "the existence of complexes for specific industries helps to provide the factories' needs of raw materials at competitive prices."

land grants

For his part, the Emirati entrepreneur, Mohammed Al Harmoudi, demanded that priority be given to granting fertile land to Emirati entrepreneurs, and also called on the Ministry of Labor to reduce labor fees for companies and factories affiliated with Emirati entrepreneurs, so that these fees are symbolic, to increase their ability to compete, in light of international conditions. and difficult regional issues, in addition to helping them increase production of many commodities and achieve self-sufficiency in some basic commodities and industries.

Al Harmoudi called for “establishing something like (the Bank of Ideas) to help implement the innovative ideas presented by Emirati entrepreneurs and youth in the economic and commercial fields,” noting that there are innovative ideas that do not find their way to implementation, especially in light of the current financing difficulties, which confirms the importance of Government intervention in the implementation of these ideas.
