Rocket fire from Gaza took place throughout the night, reports our correspondent in Jerusalem,
Michel Paul
.
It is the localities close to the border which are targeted, but on Friday evening August 5, the sirens also sounded in three suburbs of Tel Aviv.
In all, more than 160 rockets were fired (without causing any damage or casualties), with 95% success for the Iron Dome interceptor missiles.
The Israeli army, for its part, continued its strikes, killing at least 15 Palestinians, including an Islamic Jihad commander but also, according to Palestinian hospital sources and UNICEF, a 5-year-old girl.
A 23-year-old woman was also killed and 75 civilians injured, according to our correspondent in Ramallah
Alice Froussard.
Senior Islamic Jihad official arrested in Jenin
The main Israeli targets are rocket launchers and weapons warehouses in the Gaza Strip, identified with Islamic Jihad.
But at the same time, and this is the most important point to note this Saturday morning, the arrests continue in the West Bank.
A few hours ago, the Israeli military arrested several militants of Islamic Jihad and in particular a senior official of the organization in the Jenin area.
However, it was
the arrest of Basaam al-Saadi
, one of the senior figures of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the West Bank, on August 2, which caused this renewed tension and ultimately led to the outbreak of hostilities.
“Very dangerous climb”
It all started in the afternoon yesterday Friday, with a first salvo of Israeli fire, about fifteen targets in 170 seconds on a residential district of Gaza, told Alice Froussard a source on the spot.
On the images, a thick gray smoke, wounded, evacuated dead and rescuers who are busy among the rubble.
For the Jewish state, it was "
a counter-terrorism operation
" targeting one of the leaders of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Taysir al-Jabari.
It is one of the most important figures of the movement who was killed.
