Against the backdrop of heightened global awareness of human rights, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has drafted a draft guideline summarizing the efforts required of companies to respect human rights.

It is said that companies and business partners in the supply chain = product supply chain should also make efforts to respect human rights.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) set up a study group of experts in March this year to encourage companies to make efforts to respect human rights, and has been discussing the formulation of guidelines.

The draft guidelines that have been compiled this time say that companies should expand the scope of their efforts to respect human rights to include companies in the supply chain and business partners.

On top of that, it is said that serious problems such as forced labor and child labor require special attention and should be given priority.

Regarding human rights issues, in June this year, the United States enacted a law that completely banned the import of products produced by forced labor in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region of China. Movement is spreading all over the world.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry plans to make a formal decision as a government after going through the procedure for public comments on the draft guidelines.
