The International Air Transport Association (IATA) revealed that global demand for air freight rose by 2.2% during the first half of this year, compared to levels before the “Covid-19” pandemic in 2019.

In the latest air freight data in global markets, the Federation indicated that global demand levels, which are measured in freight ton per kilometer, decreased by 6.4% during last June, compared to June 2021, which represents an improvement after declining by 8.3% on an annual basis in May 2022.

Capacity rose last June by 6.7% compared to the same period in 2021, which represents an increase of 2.7% over the year-on-year growth recorded last May, while capacity in the first half of this year recorded an increase of 4.5% over the same period in 2021. .

The Director-General of the International Air Transport Association, Willie Walsh, said, “Demand for air freight rose by 2.2% in the first half of 2022, exceeding pre-pandemic levels in the same period in 2019, which represents a strong performance, especially in light of the continued restrictions. imposed on supply chains and reduced capacity as a result of the war in Ukraine.”
