All homeowners are currently feeling the burden of property tax.

By the end of October they have to collect the data for recalculating the municipal tax on real estate and send it to the tax office.

The process is cumbersome and takes time.

The good thing about it, if it exists, is that the expensive tax that every homeowner and tenant pays with the utility bill is now getting more attention.

With income of almost 15 billion euros a year, it helps the community finances.

The Federal Constitutional Court correctly ordered the recalculation because politicians have stuck to decades-old property values.

With new real estate values starting in 2025, some owners are likely to pay more.

However, the promise of politicians is: Overall, the volume should not increase.

Whether it will be met is decided locally when each community uses the assessment rate to determine the property tax burden.

It is worthwhile for citizens to keep a close eye on what is being decided – and to make local voting decisions in this light.
