Affected by the epidemic, the total retail sales in March, April, and May experienced negative growth.

With the overall improvement of the epidemic prevention and control situation and the implementation of policies and measures to stabilize growth and promote consumption, the consumer market has shown a positive recovery trend recently.

In June, the total retail sales increased by 3.1% year-on-year, and the growth rate turned from negative to positive.

However, the foundation for the recovery of consumption is not yet solid, and more efforts are needed to promote the sustained recovery of consumption.

  First, bulk consumption stopped falling and picked up.

With the gradual implementation of policies and measures such as halving the purchase tax of some passenger vehicles and steadily increasing the consumption of automobiles and household appliances, bulk consumption has recovered significantly.

In June, the retail sales of automobiles above the designated size increased by 13.9% year-on-year, and the growth rate rebounded sharply from May.

  Second, service consumption gradually recovered.

In June, although the national catering revenue fell by 4% year-on-year, the decline narrowed by 17.1 percentage points compared with May; movie box office revenue increased by 1.7 times compared with May, and has recovered to the level of 90% in the same period last year.

During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, domestic tourist arrivals and tourism revenue recovered to 80% and 60% of the pre-epidemic levels respectively, and the degree of recovery was more than 20 percentage points higher than that during the "May 1st" holiday.

  Third, online retailing stabilized and rebounded.

In the first half of the year, the online retail sales of physical goods reached 5.45 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.6%, accounting for 25.9% of the total retail sales, an increase of 2.2 percentage points over the same period of the previous year.

The online retail sales of agricultural products reached 250.67 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.2%.

The new business forms and new models of e-commerce have developed rapidly, and the number of live broadcasts and sales of e-commerce platforms have achieved rapid growth.

  Fourth, green, healthy and smart consumption is booming.

In the first half of the year, the sales of new energy vehicles reached 2.6 million, a year-on-year increase of 1.2 times, accounting for 21.6% of the sales of new vehicles; at the end of June, the number of new energy vehicles exceeded 10 million.

Sales of smart home equipment, fitness equipment, and outdoor products have shown rapid growth.

  In general, with the gradual control of the epidemic and the effective implementation of various consumption-promoting policies, consumption is expected to continue to recover and show a good development trend in the second half of the year.
