Kaspersky Cyber ​​Security Systems revealed a recent survey it conducted on electronic payments, which showed that 49% of users in the Middle East encountered fake websites, while 48% of them faced fraud attempts via text messages or Phone calls, relying on social engineering methods.

The company explained in statements during the launch of the results of the study, yesterday, that the majority of the participants in the study, at a rate of 87%, confirmed when asked about their awareness of the threats they may face when using digital payment methods, that they are aware of phishing attacks, while 87% of them stated Aware of online fraud attempts, 84% also said they were aware of malware targeting computers and mobile phones, in order to phish through electronic payments.

“Whether we are talking about the spread of phishing or malware for mobile devices, it is important to establish some basic cybersecurity standards, as advanced security solutions that are able to Filtering out most common attack vectors, backed by other preventive measures, such as a good awareness of digital security and changing passwords regularly, can help maintain the security of financial transactions conducted through digital channels.”

Kaspersky indicated that the survey study on digital payments examined users' interactions with online payments, as well as their attitudes towards it, which is the way to understand the factors that will drive the increase in demand for this technology.

She added that she commissioned the Toluna Research Company to conduct the study in the Middle East, Turkey, South Africa and Nigeria in February and March of this year, in which 2004 people participated.
