The United States claims to have become the world's largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The American authority Energy Information Administration (EIA) relies on data from the non-governmental organization Cedigaz.

According to the study, US liquefied natural gas exports increased by 12 percent in the first half of the year to an average of 11.2 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) compared to the second half of 2021. In the first five months of this year, about 71 percent of these exports went to the EU and Great Britain.

However, the importance of the United States is likely to increase further.

As a result of the Russian attack on Ukraine, the member states of the EU in particular are trying to reduce or completely stop their gas and oil purchases from Russia.

Instead, they want to focus more on other energy sources.

Liquid gas is currently considered an important alternative.

Germany intends not only to further increase imports, but also to build several terminals through which the gas can be landed and then distributed.

In addition, the Kremlin is now also reducing gas supplies to Germany.

According to its own statements, the state-owned raw materials company Gazprom will only deliver 20 percent of the possible quantity to Germany through the Nord Stream 1 line from Wednesday.
