After mass distribution, then the large specialized brands, it is the turn of “hundreds of thousands of businesses” in the trade to commit to reducing their energy consumption.

These companies represented within the federations of the CdCF (French Trade Council) and the CDF (Confederation of French traders) undertake to “thus avoid the cuts announced in the event of a crisis this winter”, announced these two associations. , the first grouping around thirty professional federations, and the second federations of independent businesses.

The announcement came after a meeting with the supermarket federation Perifem, which last week announced “concrete measures” to reduce supermarket consumption from October 15.

In concrete terms, member merchants undertake to turn off the illuminated signs as soon as the store closes, to systematically lower the light intensity before the public arrives or the ambient temperature of the points of sale.

It is also planned to close the exterior doors of stores in the presence of heating or air conditioning and to implement “other measures allowing more sober energy management”.

Long term

The companies concerned “are part of a longer-term process aimed at reducing their energy consumption by 10% within two years”.

"Businesses are aware of the urgency of acting collectively in a process of reducing their energy consumption", reacted Yves Audo, president of the CdCF since the beginning of June.

His CDF counterpart Francis Palombi was delighted that "women and men are getting involved with this protocol in a virtuous movement, exemplary for the climate".

Among the members of the Conseil du Commerce de France are the National Council for Shopping Centers (CNCC), the Fédération du commerce et de la distribution (FCD), shops specializing in toys and children's products (FCJPE), clothing (FEH), e-commerce and distance selling (FEVAD), DIY and home improvement stores (FMB), and sports (Union Sport & Cycle).

For its part, the Confederation of French Traders represents 25 federations of independent businesses, often located in the city center.
