At present, the expressway network with the national expressway as the main body has covered 98.8% of urban areas with a population of more than 200,000 and prefecture-level administrative centers, connecting about 88% of county-level administrative regions and about 95% of the population in the country; ordinary national highways basically cover The county-level and above administrative regions and the border ports opened all year round effectively connect important towns, industrial parks, transportation hubs and tourist attractions.

  Second, the level of facilities has been effectively improved.

By the end of 2021, the two-way six-lane and above sections of national expressways will account for 20.9%, and a large number of busy sections of national expressways such as Beijing-Harbin, Beijing-Shanghai, Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao, Shenhai, Shanghai-Kunming and other national expressways will be expanded and reconstructed, and the backbone of national highways will be expanded. The channel service guarantee capability has been further improved.

79.6% of the national ordinary national highways are Grade II and above, an increase of about 10% compared with 2013; more than 98% of the roads are paved with asphalt or cement concrete, an increase of about 13% compared with 2013.

The world-renowned Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge opened for operation in October 2018 and has become a super sea-crossing project integrating bridges, islands and tunnels.

The construction of the Tianshan Shengli Tunnel on the Urumqi-Yuli Expressway with a length of more than 22 kilometers started, constantly breaking the world record of expressway tunnels.

  Fourth, technological innovation achieves breakthroughs.

Highway survey and design technologies represented by digital maps, geological remote sensing, computer-aided design and simulation, and Beidou system applications have continued to advance.

The technology of road construction in soft soil, loess, frozen soil and desert areas has been continuously matured and improved, and the road pavement structure and material technology have withstood the double test of time and large traffic volume.

Super-span bridges, super-long tunnels in mountain areas, submarine immersed tunnels, large-diameter shield tunnels and other related technologies and equipment continue to make breakthroughs. "China Road, China Bridge, China Tunnel" has become a beautiful business card.
