Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company in the UAE outside the oil and gas sector, has welcomed 30 Emirati high school and university students to gain work experience through its annual summer internship program, enhancing their career prospects and encouraging them to pursue available opportunities. In the growing industrial economy of the UAE, at a time when the company revealed that it currently has one of the highest rates of Emiratisation compared to any other major company, and currently employs about 1,200 Emirati citizens.

The company said in a statement that the group of new students this year consists of high school students from grades 10, 11 and 12, and university students who have completed their first year of university studies in the fields of: science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.

The company pointed out that females represented half of the participants in the program, which reflects the high percentage of women studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects in state universities, in addition to EGA's keenness to enhance the role of women throughout the company.

According to the company, each student will spend about a month working within the two sites of EGA in "Jebel Ali" in Dubai, or "Al Taweelah" in Abu Dhabi, under the supervision of trainers from the company.

Emiratisation rates

EGA is one of the largest companies with jobs in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as the company currently employs more than 1,500 professionals in these fields.

Currently, about 1,200 Emirati nationals work in the company, while more than 700 of them are under 35 years old.

The company also currently has one of the highest Emiratisation rates of any major company, and about 40% of the total senior positions in the company are held by Emiratis.

Since its launch in 2002, more than 600 Emirati students have participated in the Summer Internship Program.

In addition to the summer program, the company's employees regularly communicate with students to motivate them to enter STEM fields, and to learn about the importance of industry in the UAE economy.

The "Ambassadors of the Emirates Global Aluminum Company" program includes the visit of young engineers from the company to universities, while the "Future Engineering" program is working to organize visits to secondary schools in cooperation with the Emirates Foundation for School Education.
