After the Nutri-score, which informs consumers about the quality of the products they eat, a new label will appear on the internet and in French supermarkets: the Planet-score.

This new index will tell customers if the products they buy are environmentally friendly.

It has now become a habit for many French people: consulting the Nutri-Score of foods in supermarkets.

This indicator allows you to quickly know thanks to a rating from A to E if the product you want to consume is good for your health.

Faced with this success, a new indicator will arrive on our shelves: the Planet Score to know if what you are going to buy is respectful of the environment.

A desire to reassure the customer

But don't panic for consumers: this label will work on the same principle as the Nutri-score: "We really have a tool that aims to help consumers see in transparency what they are buying and to be able to modify their acts of purchase or in any case to hold manufacturers to account on the way in which food is produced, explains Sabine Bonnot, the spokeswoman for Planet Score.

"This is a good thing"

With this label, customers will have access to a lot of information: exposure to pesticides, respect for biodiversity, impact on the climate or even for products of animal origin, farming method, battery or outdoor for example for poultry.

"It's a good thing because I try to buy organic, local as much as possible, to learn about the origin of the products. And there, we see that the product has been very well raised, that it respects the biodiversity and above all that it was raised without pesticides", rejoices Emma, 32 years old.

Nearly 150 brands are in the process of having their products evaluated.

These labels will arrive in the next few days, drop by drop, on our shelves and on the internet.
