DEWA: 11 power transmission stations at a cost of 1.7 billion dirhams during the first half

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) inaugurated, during the first half of this year, a new main substation with a voltage of “132/400” kilovolts in the Al Qusais Fifth Industrial Area, and 10 new main substations of “132/11” kilovolts in several areas in Dubai. Its total shunt capacity is 3500 MVA.

The authority stated that its step is part of its efforts to provide an advanced infrastructure that keeps pace with the increasing demand for energy in the Emirate of Dubai.

According to the authority, these projects included 400 kV overhead transmission lines, in addition to 132 kV ground cables with a length of 100 km to connect them to the authority’s network. Injuries, according to the highest standards of security, health and safety.

Electricity transmission

Al Tayer indicated that the total value of the Authority’s investments in electricity transmission projects between 2021 and 2024 amounts to 10 billion dirhams;

Of these, two billion dirhams are for major transmission projects of 400 kilovolts, and eight billion dirhams for major transmission projects of 132 kilovolts.

He explained that the authority is working to raise the capacity of electricity production and transmission and distribution networks, based on the expectations of electricity demand in Dubai until 2031, while these plans are implemented according to the highest quality standards with optimal use of resources.

He pointed out that the inauguration of the new substations raises the total number of 400 kV substations in Dubai to 26, and 132 kV substations to 329.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority stated that the "132/400" kilovolt substation was implemented in the "Al Qusais Fifth Industrial Area", while the "132/11" kilovolt substations are distributed in the areas: Al Barsha South, Jebel Ali, Al Furjan, Al Markaz, and Al Khaleej. Al-Tijari, Umm Hurair, Wadi Al-Safa, Oud Al-Muteena, Al-Raqqa, and Al-Wasl.
