The American agri-food giant PepsiCo could reduce the quantity of product contained in its packets or bottles.

The group notably owns the brands of Lay's and Doritos crisps, Quaker cereals, but also Pepsi, Ice Tea and Gatorade drinks.

This measure is one of the solutions recently mentioned by CEO Ramon Laguarta in a press release relayed by CNBC.

The leader thus intends to control costs while inflation reaches peaks and melts the company's margins.

Invited this Tuesday in a program of the American financial information channel, the financial director of PepsiCo, Hugh Johnston, confirmed that the reduction of the portions sold is under study.

He explained that the company preferred to reduce the number of crisps in a bag rather than increase prices.

Inflation that changes everything

To justify this measure, the official highlighted “the inflation that we have to face, like everyone else, and which is here to stay for a while”.

On the same day, however, the group revised its annual sales forecast upwards.

Inflation has indeed led to an increase in the selling price of PepsiCo's products.

This phenomenon is notably due to the increase in the cost of transport and raw materials, caused, among other things, by the war in Ukraine.

The CEO of PepsiCo nevertheless indicated that the reduction in quantities was only one measure among “a mixture of various solutions” considered by the company.
