The global crisis pushes India to impose restrictions on the export of flour and wheat products

The Directorate General of External Trade of the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced that the government will impose restrictions on the export of flour and wheat products as of July 12.

In a statement, the directorate said: “Since the disruption in global supplies of wheat and wheat flour has brought in many new players and led to price fluctuations and potential quality problems, it is of paramount importance to maintain the quality of India's wheat flour exports. Thus, the central government.. is adjusting its export policy. Wheat Flour: The wheat flour export policy remains free, but export will be subject to recommendations of the Interdepartmental Wheat Export Committee. The notice will enter into force on 12 July."

Restrictions apply to flour, wholegrain flour and semolina.

The department said that in the period until July 12, it will be allowed to export batches of flour, which have already begun to be loaded on board ships or that have been transferred to customs and registered in its system.

In mid-May, India's Ministry of Trade and Industry "taking into account the sudden jump in world wheat prices" imposed a ban on wheat exports from the country.

The ministry clarified that such exports will now not be allowed unless there is a special request from the government of any country that will be granted a visa by the Indian authorities.

After this decision, the price of wheat in Europe jumped to a record high of $455 per ton.
