France has now passed the milestone of one million charging points, public or private, for electric vehicles.

The announcement was made this Wednesday by Enedis.

The electricity distribution manager connects these infrastructures to its network, on public roads as well as in the private domain.

The company noted the current “dynamic”: with this million charging points, this represents an increase of 61% between the second quarter of 2021 and the same period in 2020.

Areas more equipped than others

A charging “point” differs from a “charging station”, the latter being able to accommodate several points.

More than half of charging points are now in private homes.

43% are in companies and the rest (6%) is accessible to the public on the road, car parks, etc...

They are also distributed unevenly in France depending on the population and the equipment policies of the territories, notes Enedis.

The most densely equipped areas are thus Ile-de-France, the Mediterranean basin, the North and the Gironde.

The balance sheet is more homogeneous when taking into account the population density.

More than 900,000 electric and hybrid vehicles are currently in circulation in France.

They should be 17 million in 2035. Some 89% of users do their main charging at home, according to an Enedis/BVA survey published in 2021. Nearly half of French people live in collective residences and around 2% of condominiums are today equipped with charging points.
