Juan Manuel Rodríguez Poo presented his resignation this Friday as president of the National Institute of Statistics (INE) after the Government has questioned, on numerous occasions, the results of the National Accounts and the figures of the Gross Domestic Product (INE).

In a statement sent at night, the Ministry of Economy has linked the output to a process of "strengthening the state statistical system."

"The current president of the INE, Juan Manuel Rodríguez Poo, has led", says the ministry led by Nadia Calviño, the "process of modernization and reinforcement of the institution since his appointment in October 2018. Once the objectives have been achieved, he has expressed his will leaving office for personal reasons.

A substitution process is being opened for this position, which is expected to close in the next few days », he affirms.

However, within the organization there was already talk last week of the possible dismissal of Rodríguez Poo and even

El Confidencial

published that his departure was imminent.

In Economy they denied the information, affirming that they were only working on a "reinforcement" process and going so far as to say that such information should not be encouraged.

However, what has ended up happening is significantly different and Rodríguez Poo would have decided to resign before being dismissed.
