ruling and opposition parties have come forward with one voice to propose a bill that will reduce the tax on oil even more.

In that way, they are trying to lower the price of gasoline and light fuel. It can relieve people's burden right away, but there are voices who are worried about the side effects.

A gas station in Seoul where the price of gasoline is 50 won cheaper than the national average.

It is crowded with people who want to save even a penny.

[Seok Sang-hoon / Yongsan-gu, Seoul: Even if you put the same amount as before, the drivable distance is much smaller, so you can't help but feel emotionally pressured.]

Starting this Friday, the fuel tax will be lowered by 57 won per 1 liter of gasoline, but the price of oil will rise horribly. So it's only about going back to the price two weeks ago.

[Kim Do-jun / Yangcheon-gu, Seoul: (In-ha) I can't feel it.

If I said how much it would be lowered, I should feel the effect, but I can't feel it.]

So, both the opposition and the opposition are claiming to change the law and cut the fuel tax from the current 37% to a maximum of 50%.

[Ryu Seong-geol / People's Power Special Committee on People's Livelihood: A plan to lower the fuel tax with the revision of the Enforcement Decree...

.]

[Kim Seong-hwan / Democratic Party Policy Committee Chairman: The core of high inflation is oil price, so we can lower it to at least 1,800 won…

.]

In this case, 148 won per liter of gasoline will be lowered in addition to Friday's cut.

Based on the current price, the national average of gasoline prices can be lowered to the low 1,900 won and in Seoul to the low 2,000 won.

But problems follow.

If the fuel tax is cut by up to 50%, the tax will be reduced by 1.3 trillion won each month and 15 trillion won for the whole year.

It is also pointed out that the fuel tax cut benefits those who drive large-displacement vehicles rather than the common people who use public transportation.

Therefore, it is an analysis that it is efficient to directly subsidize energy costs to low-income families and truck drivers.

Even if the law is amended in consideration of tax revenue issues, the government does not cut 50% at once, but is focusing on increasing the extent of the cut.
