Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Iran's elite military, have '
successfully
' launched a new rocket intended to place satellites into orbit.
The announcement made by Iranian television on Sunday June 26 comes as Westerners claim that the technology used to launch the rockets allows Iran to develop its ballistic missiles.

Iranian television broadcast images of the rocket launch on Sunday.
This is the second test of this new three-stage launcher, which uses solid fuel for its first two stages and liquid fuel for its third stage.
It is the first time that Iran has used solid fuel, which increases the
range of its launchers
, and allows the rockets to be used by mobile launchers.
This rocket can
place satellites
at an altitude of 500 kilometers.
According to experts, this technology can also be used for ballistic missiles.
At the moment, Iran's ballistic missiles have a maximum range of 2,000 kilometers, but with this technology their range can increase even further.
This worries Western countries.
The announcement of this launch comes the day after the visit of the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, and the Tehran agreement
to restart nuclear negotiations with the major powers
.
These
negotiations have been blocked
since last March.
Tehran is indeed demanding the lifting of American sanctions against the Revolutionary Guards, which Washington refuses.
This new test shows in any case that Iran is determined to develop its space and ballistic program despite Western and Israeli accusations.
