Officials of major local companies said that the high levels of quality in local products, competitive prices, adherence to standard specifications, delivery periods and contract terms, are the most important requirements that support increased purchases from the local market.

They explained to "Emirates Today" on the sidelines of the "Make in the Emirates Forum", that the time has come for major companies to manufacture in the Emirates, establish production lines for them, and take advantage of the many incentives offered by the government.

Essam Mahmoud, Senior Vice President of Small and Medium Business Sector at Etisalat by &e, said that commitment to high quality levels, competitive prices, agreed delivery periods, and contracts are among the most important requirements that support increased purchases from the local market.

He explained that "Etisalat" has huge supply requests annually of devices, equipment and cables for communications, a large part of which is imported from the foreign market, stressing that the time has come to establish major factories within the country, to provide these supplies, instead of the local supplier importing them for the benefit of "Etisalat". ».

He stressed Etisalat's support for the "Make in the UAE" initiative, and the purchase of products from the local market, pointing out the importance of major companies manufacturing in the Emirates, establishing production lines for them in the country, and benefiting from the incentives provided by the government, to achieve self-sufficiency and export abroad instead of import.

For his part, Senior Executive Director of Procurement Support at “Etisalat by &e”, Adel Al Hammadi, said that the application of the added national value is one of the main criteria in evaluating the procurement offers submitted by suppliers, pointing out that the greater the added value of the local product, the greater the supply capabilities of the group. .

He stressed the importance of supplying companies opening branches in the country and establishing manufacturing facilities, noting that Etisalat was one of the first companies to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Industry regarding the added national value and increasing its purchases from the local market.

Main requirements

In the same context, Stefan Severance, Head of Programs and Marketing at Masdar, said that international companies need to invest in the UAE for major requirements, the most important of which are the availability of talent and job competencies, easy financing, and easy access to markets.

He stressed that the UAE is an ideal place for business, as it is characterized by complete connectivity with the outside world, through ports and airports, and the availability of 100% foreign ownership, with great economic diversification efforts.

He stated that the UAE in general, and Abu Dhabi in particular, is characterized by the ease of doing business, as it is possible in “Masdar” to establish “online” companies and start working in the company upon arrival in the country, after completing the procedures in advance via the Internet.

He pointed out that there are 1,100 companies established in the Masdar free zone, ranging from large, medium, small and emerging companies, especially companies that rely on advanced technology, and that adopt a policy of carbon neutrality in accordance with the Abu Dhabi Vision 2050.

"Pure Health" Supplies

In the same context, the Commercial Executive Director of PureHealth, Ahmed Mohamed Al Bastaki, revealed that the company's supplies amount to at least 100 billion dirhams during the next 10 years.

He said that the company decided to obtain 10% of these supplies (equivalent to 10 billion dirhams) from local factories and national companies to support local purchases.

Al Bastaki stressed that the company will work to provide all forms of support to local factories, in order to reach the global level with regard to pharmaceutical products, medical supplies and medical devices, explaining that adherence to international standards, high quality, and competitive prices are among the most important requirements of the company.

Purchase priority

In addition, Executive Director of Raw Materials, Inventory and Warehousing Department at Emirates Global Aluminium, Najm Al-Awadi, said that the company gives priority to purchasing from the local market, with a commitment to quality and appropriate price, as well as other factors, such as preserving the environment and social responsibility.

He revealed that the value of the company's purchases from the local market amounts to $1.7 billion annually, equivalent to 45% of the total purchases.

He stressed that some local products are superior to their imported counterparts.

He pointed out that 10% of the company's production is directed to the local market, and 90% to export, indicating that there are 7,000 employees in the company, including 1,200 citizens, at a time when the company supports 60,000 jobs related to the aluminum sector in general.
