The number of corona infections is increasing again despite the summer weather.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), around 100,000 new cases are currently reported to the health authorities every day, a week and a half ago it was less than half.

The seven-day incidence has swelled from 225 at the end of May to 472 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Fortunately, most infections are mild.

The Divi intensive care register does not report any increasing Covid occupancy in the intensive care units, it remains below the threshold of 700 cases a day.

The number of corona deaths is now around 100 a day, a slight increase from last being as low as late August last year.

Because different rules apply in the federal states and because the regulations have been changed several times there and at federal level, there is some confusion about the current Corona requirements.

The Infection Protection Act runs until the beginning of autumn on September 23;

Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) is currently working on an extension in a modified form.

Here is an overview of what is currently still valid nationwide:

Which nationwide corona protection regulations apply?

Only a few left for the general public this spring and summer.

Protective masks are still mandatory in air and long-distance passenger transport.

The federal states have also agreed with the federal government to maintain uniform basic protection.

It includes the possibility of compulsory testing in certain facilities, such as schools, day-care centers or medical and nursing facilities, and compulsory wearing of masks in local public transport, in community facilities and in the health and care sector.

Vaccination is also compulsory there for staff (but not for those being looked after or for visitors).

General access restrictions by law (2 or 3 G rules) are no longer applicable.

However, the state parliaments may enact stricter regulations for "hotspots" if either a dangerous virus variant is spreading in these defined areas or if the hospitals are at risk of being overwhelmed.

Distance requirements, access restrictions and other requirements can then apply there again, up to and including lockdown.

No hotspots are known at the moment.

How dangerous is the travel time?

The greater mobility, the many different contacts and the carefree behavior on vacation have favored the infection in the past.

This could also happen again in the summer holidays.

However, the incidences in most travel countries are lower than in Germany: Only 19 countries report higher values, in Europe only Portugal, Gibraltar, Luxembourg and Andorra.

The Ministry of Health advises strict compliance with the rules of distance and hygiene.
