Idemitsu Kosan, a major oil retailer, has decided to suspend operations at the Yamaguchi Refinery in Yamaguchi Prefecture within the next fiscal year.

For decarbonization, we will consider using it as a receiving base for hydrogen and ammonia.

According to the people concerned, Idemitsu Kosan has decided to suspend the operation of the Yamaguchi Refinery in Sanyo Onoda City, Yamaguchi Prefecture by the end of next year.

The Yamaguchi Refinery is a Seibu Oil refinery in which Idemitsu has a 38% stake, and its crude oil processing capacity is approximately 120,000 barrels per day, accounting for 13% of the entire group.

In addition to gasoline, we ship fuel for aircraft and ships, raw materials for petrochemical products, etc., but it is expected that operations will be suspended due to the decline in demand due to the declining population and improved fuel efficiency of automobiles.

After the shutdown, we are considering using it as a receiving base for hydrogen and ammonia that do not emit carbon dioxide for decarbonization.

Regarding domestic refineries, ENEOS Holdings, the largest former seller, announced in January that it would close the Wakayama refinery in Arida City, Wakayama Prefecture.
