With rising fuel prices and ever more pressing environmental issues among consumers, swapping your car for an electric bike has become obvious to some.

Each year, sales of these two-wheelers explode: in 2021, no less than 600,000 units have passed.

If you are tempted but hesitate because of the sometimes very high prices of these green mobility devices, there are many financial boosts to lighten the bill.

Here are a few.

The conversion bonus extended to pedelecs

Originally launched for the purchase of a low-emission car, the conversion bonus was extended in July 2021 to electrically assisted bicycles (VAE).

For it to be granted to you, you must get rid of a diesel car registered before 2011 or a petrol car registered before 2006, and buy or rent (over a period of two years minimum) a cycle with an identifier registered on the frame, a motor with a maximum power of 250 W and which does not have a lead-acid battery.

The amount of the premium is 40% of the acquisition price, up to a limit of 1,500 euros.

It can also be granted to cargo bikes, i.e. those which allow the transport of people or goods behind or in front of the driver.

Here, the amount will be equal to 40% of the purchase price, within the limit of 1,000 euros.

But beware, the bonus is scheduled until December 31, 2022 only.

The procedure is to be carried out on the official portal Primealaconversion.gouv.fr.

The bike bonus

If you do not have a petrol or diesel vehicle to exchange for a VAE, you can turn to the bicycle bonus, financial aid paid by the State under the same conditions as the conversion bonus, except that your income tax per unit of the year preceding the purchase of the cycle must be less than 13,489 euros.

It should also be noted that this bonus will only be granted to you if it is coupled with other aid paid by the local authority, that is to say your municipality, department or region.

The amount of the State subsidy is identical to the amount of that granted by the local authority for the purchase of your bike within the limit of 200 euros.

For example, if the cost of the bicycle is 1,200 euros and the premium for your municipality is 300 euros, that of the State will be 200 euros.

The bonus can also be requested from the official Primealaconversion.gouv.fr portal.

A mobility package for employees

If you wish to opt for a more economical and ecological means of transport for your business trips, the sustainable mobility package gives employers the possibility of allocating an indemnity exempt from social security contributions and income tax to employees who have chosen a bicycle. electric (or mechanical) for their home-work journeys.

This coverage is capped at 500 euros per year and per employee.

But it can reach 600 euros since August 2021, in the event of accumulation between the sustainable mobility package and the payment of a public transport subscription.

Check with your company.

Community aid

In addition to the boosts granted by the State, there are local aids granted by the local authorities.

Just check with your municipality, department or region to find out the amount you could receive.

For example, the city of Paris offers aid of 400 euros, while the Lyon metropolitan area can pay you up to 500 euros depending on your tax income.

In the Bouches-du-Rhône, the financial contribution is capped at 25% of the price of the VAE, within the limit of 400 euros, while in Toulouse and its surroundings, you can receive up to 250 euros.

Finally, in Bordeaux, the amount of the subsidy is 100 euros, and a little more in Occitanie (200 euros).
