“The WTO must respond to a worsening food crisis... Droughts, floods, heatwaves and other extreme weather events, combined with the COVID-19 pandemic, have led to disruptions in supply chains and rising prices in the world,” TASS quoted her as saying.

She noted that the events in Ukraine "exacerbated this situation", and added that at the moment there is a 56% increase in wheat prices compared to May last year.

“Low-income countries will face a catastrophic situation if steps are not taken at the international and national levels ... WTO members can contribute to resolving this problem by allowing the free flow of food and agricultural imports, especially for humanitarian purposes,” emphasized she is.

Earlier, Maxim Oreshkin, assistant to the Russian president for economic affairs, said that Russia is doing everything to help overcome world hunger by supplying more products to the global market.
