The 2021 income declaration procedure officially ended for the last departments this Wednesday at 11:59 p.m.

Taxpayers who have not completed their declaration on time will now be exposed to various penalties that are difficult to avoid, reports BFMTV.

Surcharges, interest on arrears, etc.

If the declaration is made before receipt of the formal notice by mail, a first increase of 10% will be applied.

Within 30 days of receipt of the formal notice, this increase then increases to 20%.

After this period, the surcharge applied is 40%.

Added to this is interest which amounts to 0.20% of the tax per month of delay, or 2.4% more per year of delay.

In addition, in the event of discovery of occult activity, ie undeclared work or illegal activity, an 80% increase is directly applied, without formal notice.

A fine of 150 euros

Finally, non-taxable persons risk a fine of 150 euros in the event of late declaration.

As a reminder, the tax return must be completed by all taxpayers, even those exempt from tax, because this return can be used to recalculate the tax rate at source and to benefit from any credits.

In case of omission or delay, it is therefore advisable to contact the local tax office as soon as possible in order to explain the situation to them.

A "good faith" error may, if it is exceptional, give rise to the non-application of late payment penalties.

In case of difficulty, a number is also available, 0.809.401.401 (5 days a week, from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.).
