The amount spent by two or more households in April was down 1.7% from the same month last year, the second consecutive month of decline.

According to the April household survey announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on the 7th, the amount of money spent by two or more households for consumption was 304,510 yen per household.

In real terms, excluding price fluctuations, it decreased by 1.7% from the same month last year, the second consecutive month of decline.

Looking at the breakdown, “Transportation / Communications” decreased by 8.1% due to a decrease in purchases of automobiles and related supplies due to supply constraints due to a global shortage of parts.

“Food” decreased by 2.1% due to a decrease in demand for ingredients such as onions and cabbage, while going out and opportunities to cook at home are decreasing.

On the other hand, sales of “clothes and footwear” increased by 8.7% due to demand for replacement of clothes before the long holidays.

As household spending has increased compared to the previous month, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said, "Prices are rising, but so far the effects of household spending refraining from buying and saving have not been seen so much. I think that households are worried about the future, so I would like to continue to pay close attention to the impact of rising prices. "
